Lara Croft returns to the big screen in the form of Alicia Vikander, following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie who starred in two films between 2001 and 2003. For anyone who doesn’t know, Lara is an adventuring archaeologist who first appeared in the 1996 video game Tomb Raider followed by a series of sequels, comic book series and animation. Essentially, in the early 2000s, it was a multimedia phenomenon. The video game was successfully rebooted in 2013 so it’s the perfect time to bring it back to the big screen.
Norwegian director Roar Uthaug will be calling the shots on adaptation, with a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons.
Co-starring are Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu , Dominic West, Kristin Scott Thomas and Nick Frost.
Tomb Raider will kick off the blockbuster season when it arrives in cinemas on 16 March 2017.
